- Kapitel 15 -

(Matthew 27:1–2)

And anon in the dawning, the hie Priestes helde a Councill with the Elders, and the Scribes, and the whole Council, and bound Iesus, and led him away, and deliuered him to Pilate.

Then Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Iewes? And hee answered, and sayde vnto him, Thou sayest it.

And the hie Priestes accused him of many things.

Wherefore Pilate asked him againe, saying, Answerest thou nothing? beholde howe many things they witnesse against thee.

But Iesus answered no more at all, so that Pilate marueiled.

The Crowd Chooses Barabbas

(Matthew 27:15–23; Luke 23:13–25)

Nowe at the feast, Pilate did deliuer a prisoner vnto them, whomesoeuer they woulde desire.

Then there was one named Barabbas, which was bounde with his fellowes, that had made insurrection, who in the insurrection had committed murder.

And the people cried aloude, and began to desire that he woulde doe as he had euer done vnto them.

Then Pilate answered them, and said, Will ye that I let loose vnto you the King of ye Iewes?

For he knewe that the hie Priestes had deliuered him of enuie.

But the high Priestes had moued the people to desire that he would rather deliuer Barabbas vnto them.

Pilate Delivers Up Jesus

(Matthew 27:24–26)

And Pilate answered, and said againe vnto them, What will ye then that I doe with him, whom ye call the King of the Iewes?

And they cried againe, Crucifie him.

Then Pilate said vnto them, But what euill hath he done? And they cryed the more feruently, Crucifie him.

So Pilate willing to content the people, loosed them Barabbas, and deliuered Iesus, when he had scourged him, that he might be crucified.

The Soldiers Mock Jesus

(Isaiah 50:4–11; Matthew 27:27–31; Luke 22:63–65; John 19:1–15)

Then the souldiers led him away into the hall, which is the common hall, and called together the whole band,

And clad him with purple, and platted a crowne of thornes, and put it about his head,

And began to salute him, saying, Haile, King of the Iewes.

And they smote him on the head with a reede, and spat vpon him, and bowed the knees, and did him reuerence.

And whe they had mocked him, they tooke the purple off him, and put his owne clothes on him, and led him out to crucifie him.

The Crucifixion

(Psalm 22:1–31; Matthew 27:32–44; Luke 23:26–43; John 19:16–27)

And they compelled one that passed by, called Simon of Cyrene (which came out of the countrey, and was father of Alexander and Rufus) to beare his crosse.

And they brought him to a place named Golgotha, which is by interpretation, the place of dead mens skulles.

And they gaue him to drinke wine mingled with myrrhe: but he receiued it not.

And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots for them, what euery man should haue.

And it was the third houre, when they crucified him.

And ye title of his cause was written aboue, THAT KING OF THE JEWES.

They crucified also with him two theeues, the one on ye right hand, and the other on his left.

Thus the Scripture was fulfilled, which sayth, And he was counted among the wicked.

And they that went by, railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Hey, thou that destroyest the Temple, and buildest it in three dayes,

Saue thy selfe, and come downe from the crosse.

Likewise also euen the hie Priests mocking, said among themselues with the Scribes, He saued other men, himselfe he cannot saue.

Let Christ the King of Israel nowe come downe from the crosse, that we may see, and beleeue. They also that were crucified with him, reuiled him.

The Death of Jesus

(Psalm 22:1–31; Matthew 27:45–56; Luke 23:44–49; John 19:28–30)

Nowe when the sixt houre was come, darkenesse arose ouer all the land vntill the ninth houre.

And at the ninth houre Iesus cryed with a loude voyce, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lamma-sabachthani? which is by interpretation, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

And some of them that stoode by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.

And one ranne, and filled a spondge full of vineger, and put it on a reede, and gaue him to drinke, saying, Let him alone: let vs see if Elias will come, and take him downe.

And Iesus cryed with a loude voyce, and gaue vp the ghost.

And the vaile of the Temple was rent in twaine, from the toppe to the bottome.

Nowe when the Centurion, which stoode ouer against him, sawe that he thus crying gaue vp the ghost, he saide, Truely this man was the Sonne of God.

There were also women, which beheld afarre off, among whom was Marie Magdalene, and Marie (the mother of Iames the lesse, and of Ioses) and Salome,

Which also when he was in Galile, folowed him, and ministred vnto him, and many other women which came vp with him vnto Hierusalem.

The Burial of Jesus

(Isaiah 53:9–12; Matthew 27:57–61; Luke 23:50–56; John 19:38–42)

And nowe when the night was come (because it was the day of the preparation that is before the Sabbath)

Ioseph of Arimathea, an honorable counsellour, which also looked for the kingdome of God, came, and went in boldly vnto Pilate, and asked the body of Iesus.

And Pilate marueiled, if he were already dead, and called vnto him the Centurion, and asked of him whether he had bene any while dead.

And when he knewe the trueth of the Centurion, he gaue the body to Ioseph:

Who bought a linnen cloth, and tooke him downe, and wrapped him in the linnen cloth, and laide him in a tombe that was hewen out of a rocke, and rolled a stone vnto the doore of the sepulchre:

And Marie Magdalene, and Marie Ioses mother, behelde where he should be layed.

Jesus steht vor Pilatus

(Matthäus 27,1-2)

Und sogleich gegen Morgen hielten die Hohenpriester Rat mit den Ältesten und den Schriftgelehrten und dem ganzen hohen Rate, ließen Jesus binden und fortführen, und überlieferten ihn an Pilatus.

Und Pilatus fragte ihn: Bist du der König der Juden? Er aber antwortete, und sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es!

Und die Hohenpriester brachten viele Anklagen gegen ihn vor.

Pilatus aber fragte ihn abermals, und sprach: Antwortest du nichts? Sieh, welch große Dinge sie wider dich vorbringen!

Jesus aber antwortete nichts mehr, so dass Pilatus sich verwunderte.

Er nimmt den Platz von Barabbas ein

(Matthäus 27,15-23; Lukas 23,13-25)

Auf das Fest aber pflegte er ihnen einen von den Gefangenen loszugeben, welchen sie begehrten.

Nun war einer, Barabbas genannt, der mit den Aufständischen gefangen worden war, und in dem Aufruhre einen Mord begangen hatte.

Und als das Volk hinaufkam, fing es an zu bitten, er möchte ihnen tun, wie er immer getan hatte.

Pilatus aber antwortete ihnen, und sprach: Wollt ihr, dass ich euch den König der Juden losgebe?

Denn er wusste, dass die Hohenpriester ihn aus Neid überantwortet hatten.

Die Hohenpriester aber reizten das Volk auf, dass er ihnen vielmehr den Barabbas losgebe.

(Matthäus 27,24-26)

Da entgegnete Pilatus wiederum, und sprach zu ihnen: Was wollt ihr also, dass ich mit dem König der Juden tue?

Sie riefen abermals: Kreuzige ihn!

Pilatus aber sprach zu ihnen: Was hat er denn Böses getan? Allein sie schrien noch mehr: Kreuzige ihn!

Da nun Pilatus dem Volke willfahren wollte, gab er ihnen den Barabbas los, Jesus aber übergab er, nachdem er ihn hatte geißeln lassen, der Kreuzigung.

Die Soldaten verhöhnen Jesus

(Jesaja 50,4-11; Matthäus 27,27-31; Lukas 22,63-65; Johannes 19,1-15)

Die Kriegsknechte führten ihn nun in den Hof des Richthauses, und riefen die ganze Kohorte zusammen,

und legten ihm ein Purpurkleid um, und flochten eine Dornenkrone, und setzten sie ihm auf.

Und sie fingen an ihn zu begrüßen: Sei gegrüßt, König der Juden!

Und sie schlugen sein Haupt mit einem Rohre, und spieen ihn an, und die Knie beugend, beteten sie ihn an.

Und nachdem sie ihn verspottet hatten, nahmen sie ihm das Purpurkleid ab, und zogen ihm seine eigenen Kleider an, und führten ihn hinaus, um ihn zu kreuzigen.

Der König am Kreuz

(Psalm 22,1-31; Matthäus 27,32-44; Lukas 23,26-43; Johannes 19,16-27)

Und sie zwangen einen Vorübergehenden, Simon von Zyrene, der vom Lande kam, den Vater des Alexander und Rufus, sein Kreuz auf sich zu nehmen.

Und sie führten ihn an den Ort Golgotha, was verdolmetscht ist: Schädelstätte.

Da reichten sie ihm Wein, mit Myrrhen gemischt, zu trinken; er aber nahm ihn nicht.

Und nachdem sie ihn gekreuzigt hatten, verteilten sie seine Kleider, indem sie das Los darüber warfen, was ein jeder nehmen sollte.

Es war aber die dritte Stunde, da sie ihn kreuzigten.

Auch war die Ursache seines Todes angeschrieben: Der König der Juden.

Und sie kreuzigten mit ihm zwei Räuber, einen zu seiner Rechten, und den andern zu seiner Linken.

Da ward die Schrift erfüllet, die da sagt: Er ist unter die Übeltäter gezählt worden.

Die vorübergehenden aber lästerten ihn, indem sie ihre Häupter schüttelten, und sprachen: Ha, der du den Tempel Gottes abbrichst, und in drei Tagen wieder aufbauest,

Hilf dir selbst, und steige herab vom Kreuze!

Gleicherweise verspotteten ihn auch die Hohenpriester und Schriftgelehrten, und sprachen zueinander: Andern hat er geholfen, sich selbst kann er nicht helfen!

Christus, der König von Israel, steige nun herab vom Kreuze, dass wir sehen und glauben! Auch die, welche mit ihm gekreuziget wurden, schmähten ihn.

Jesus stirbt am Kreuz

(Psalm 22,1-31; Matthäus 27,45-56; Lukas 23,44-49; Johannes 19,28-30)

Als aber die sechste Stunde gekommen war, entstand eine Finsternis über das ganze Land bis hin zur neunten Stunde.

Und um die neunte Stunde rief Jesus mit lauter Stimme, und sprach: Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabakthani? Das ist verdolmetschet: Mein Gott, mein Gott! Warum hast du mich verlassen?

Und als dies einiger der Umstehenden hörten, sagten sie: Sehet, er ruft den Elias!

Einer aber lief hin, füllte einen Schwamm mit Essig, steckte ihn an ein Rohr, und gab ihm zu trinken, indem er sprach: Lasset, sehen wir, ob Elias kommt, ihn herabzunehmen.

Jesus aber rief mit lauter Stimme, und gab seinen Geist auf.

Da riss der Vorhang des Tempels entzwei von oben bis unten.

Als aber der Hauptmann, welcher ihm gegenüber stand, sah, dass er so laut rufend den Geist aufgab, sprach er: Wahrlich, dieser Mensch war Gottes Sohn!

Es waren aber auch Frauen da, die von ferne zusahen. Unter diesen war Maria Magdalena, und Maria, die Mutter Jakobus, des Jüngeren, und Josephs, und Salome,

welche ihm, da er in Galiläa war, auch nachgefolgt waren und gedient hatten, und viele andere, die zugleich mit ihm nach Jerusalem hinaufgezogen waren.

Jesus wird im Josephsgrab begraben

(Jesaja 53,9-12; Matthäus 27,57-61; Lukas 23,50-56; Johannes 19,38-42)

Und als es bereits Abend geworden war (es war nämlich Rüsttag, das ist der Tag vor dem Sabbate),

kam Joseph von Arimathäa, ein angesehener Ratsherr, der auch selbst auf das Reich Gottes harrte, und ging herzhaft hinein zu Pilatus, und begehrte den Leichnam Jesu.

Pilatus aber wunderte sich, dass er schon verschieden sei. Und er ließ den Hauptmann kommen, und fragte ihn, ob er schon gestorben sei.

Und da er es von dem Hauptmanne erfahren hatte, schenkte er dem Joseph den Leichnam.

Joseph aber kaufte Leinwand, nahm ihn ab, wickelte ihn in die Leinwand, und legte ihn in ein Grab, welches in einen Felsen gehauen war, und wälzte einen Stein vor die Türe des Grabes.

Maria Magdalena aber, und Maria, des Joseph Mutter, sahen zu, wo er hingelegt wurde.
