- Kapitel 5 -

The sonnes also of Reuben the eldest sonne of Israel (for he was the eldest, but had defiled his fathers bed, therefore his birthright was giuen vnto the sonnes of Ioseph the sonne of Israel, so that the genealogie is not rekoned after his birthright.

For Iudah preuailed aboue his brethren, and of him came the prince, but the birthright was Iosephs)

The sonnes of Reuben the eldest sonne of Israel, were Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi.

The sonnes of Ioel, Shemaiah his sonne, Gog his sonne, and Shimei his sonne,

Michah his sonne, Reaiah his sonne, and Baal his sonne,

Beerah his sonne: whom Tilgath Pilneeser King of Asshur caryed away: he was a prince of the Reubenites.

And when his brethren in their families rekoned the genealogie of their generations, Ieiel and Zechariah were the chiefe,

And Bela the sonne of Azaz, the sonne of Shema, the sonne of Ioel, which dwelt in Aroer, euen vnto Nebo and Baal meon.

Also Eastwarde he inhabited vnto the entring in of the wildernes from the riuer Perath for they had much cattel in the land of Gilead.

And in the dayes of Saul they warred with the Hagarims, which fell by their hands: and they dwelt in their tentes in all the East partes of Gilead.

The Descendants of Gad

And the children of Gad dwelt ouer against them in the land of Bashan, vnto Salchah.

Ioel was the chiefest, and Shapham the second, but Iaanai and Shaphat were in Bashan.

And their brethren of the house of their fathers were Michael, and Meshullam, and Sheba, and Sorai, and Iacan, and Zia and Eber, seuen.

These are the childre of Abihail, the sonne of Huri, the sonne of Iaroah, the sonne of Gilead, the sonne of Michael, the sonne of Ieshishai, the sonne of Iahdo, the sonne of Buz.

Ahi the sonne of Abdiel, the sonne of Guni was chiefe of the houshold of their fathers.

And they dwelt in Gilead in Bashan, and in the townes thereof, and in all the suburbes of Sharon by their borders.

All these were rekoned by genealogies in the dayes of Iotham King of Iudah, and in the dayes of Ieroboam King of Israel.

The sonnes of Reuben and of Gad, and of halfe the tribe of Manasseh of those that were viliant men, able to beare shield, and sworde, and to draw a bowe, exercised in warre, were foure and fourtie thousand, seuen hundreth and three score, that went out to the warre.

And they made warre with the Hagarims, with Ietur, and Naphish, and Nodab.

And they were holpen against them, and the Hagarims were deliuered into their hande, and all that were with them: for they cryed to God in the battel, and he heard them, because they trusted in him.

And they led away their cattel, euen their camels fiftie thousand, and two hundreth, and fiftie thousand sheepe, and two thousand asses, and of persons an hundreth thousand.

For many fel downe wounded, because the warre was of God. And they dwelt in their steads vntill the captiuitie.

The Half-Tribe of Manasseh

And the children of the halfe tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land, from Baashan vnto Baal Hermon, and Senir, and vnto mount Hermon: for they increased.

And these were the heads of the housholds of their fathers, euen Epher and Ishi, and Eliel and Azriel, and Ieremiah, and Hodauiah, and Iahdiel, strong men, valiant and famous, heades of the housholdes of their fathers.

But they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the people of the lande, whome God had destroyed before them.

And the God of Israel stirred vp the spirit of Pul king of Asshur, and the spirite of Tilgath Pilneeser king of Asshur, and he caryed them away: euen the Reubenites and the Gadites, and the halfe tribe of Manasseh, and brought them vnto Halah and Habor, and Hara, and to the riuer Gozan, vnto this day.

Das Geschlecht Ruben

Und die Söhne Rubens, des Erstgeborenen Israels (er war nämlich sein Erstgeborner, aber weil er seines Vaters Lager entehrt hatte, ward sein Erstgeburtsrecht den Söhnen Josephs, des Sohnes Israels, verliehen und er ward nicht als Erstgeborner gerechnet;

denn Judas war wohl der mächtigste unter seinen Brüdern und seinem Geschlechte sind Fürsten entsprossen, aber das Recht der Erstgeburt ward Joseph zugeteilt).

Die Söhne Rubens also, des Erstgeborenen Israels, waren Henoch, Phallu, Esron und Charmi.

Die Söhne Joels: Samia, sein Sohn, dessen Sohn Gog, dessen Sohn Semei,

dessen Sohn Micha, dessen Sohn Reja, dessen Sohn Baal,

dessen Sohn Beera, welchen Thelgathphalnasar, der König von Assyrien, gefangen wegführte; er war ein Fürst im Stamme Ruben.

Seine Brüder aber und sein ganzes Geschlecht, wie sie nach ihren Familien gezählt wurden, hatten zu Fürsten Jehiel und Zacharias.

Und Bala, der Sohn Azaz, des Sohnes Sammas, des Sohnes Joels, wohnte in Aroer bis nach Nebo und Beelmeon.

Und auch nach Osten zu wohnte er bis zum Eingang in die Wüste und bis an den Fluß Euphrat. Denn sie besaßen eine große Menge Viehes im Lande Galaad.

In den Tagen Sauls aber kämpften sie gegen die Agariter und töteten diese und wohnten an ihrer statt in deren Zelten, in der ganzen Gegend, welche auf der Ostseite von Galaad liegt.

Das Geschlecht Gad

Die Söhne Gads aber wohnten ihnen gegenüber im Lande Basan bis nach Selcha hin:

Joel an der Spitze, Saphan der zweite, Janai aber und Saphat in Basan.

Ihre Brüder aber nach ihren Stammhäusern sind: Michael, Mosollam, Sebe, Jorai, Jachan, Zie und Heber, sieben.

Das sind die Söhne Abihails, des Sohnes Huris, des Sohnes Jaras, des Sohnes Galaads, des Sohnes Michaels, des Sohnes Jesesis, des Sohnes Jeddos, des Sohnes Buz.

Auch die Brüder, die Söhne Abdiels, des Sohnes Gunis, der Oberhaupt eines Hauses in seinen Familien war.

Sie wohnten in Galaad, in Basan und den dazu gehörigen Flecken und in der ganzen Umgebung von Saorn bis zu den Grenzen.

Alle diese wurden gezählt in den Tagen Joathans, des Königs von Juda, und in den Tagen Jeroboams, des Königs von Israel.

Von den Söhnen Rubens und Gads und dem halben Stamme Manasse waren Krieger, die Schild und Schwert führten und den Bogen spannten, kampfgeübt, vierundvierzigtausend siebenhundertsechzig, die in den Kampf zogen.

Diese kämpften gegen die Agariter; aber die Ituräer, Naphis und Nodab

leisteten diesen Beistand. Die Agariter wurden in ihre Hände überliefert und alle, die auf deren Seite waren, weil sie Gott anriefen, als sie kämpften; und er erhörte sie, weil sie an ihn geglaubt hatten.

Und sie erbeuteten alles, was jene besaßen, fünfzigtausend Kamele, zweimalhundertundfünfzigtausend Schafe, zweitausend Esel und hunderttausend Menschen.

Viele aber fielen verwundet, denn es war ein Krieg des Herrn. Und sie wohnten an ihrer Statt bis zur Wegführung.

Das Geschlecht Manasses (Osten)

Die Söhne des halben Stammes Manasse besaßen das Land von den Grenzen Basans bis Baal, Hermon und Sanir und das Gebirge Hermon, denn sie waren sehr zahlreich.

Und dies waren die Stammfürsten ihrer Geschlechter: Epher, Jesi, Eliel, Ezriel, Jeremia, Odoja und Jediel, sehr tapfere und mächtige Männer und namhafte Fürsten in ihren Geschlechtern.

Da sie aber den Gott ihrer Väter verließen und den Göttern der Völker des Landes nachbuhlten, welche Gott vor ihnen hinweggenommen hatte,

erweckte der Gott Israels den Geist Phuls, des Königs von Assyrien, und den Geist Thelgathphalnasars, des Königs von Assur, und er führte Ruben und Gad und den halben Stamm Manasse weg und brachte sie nach Lahela, Habor, Ara und an den Fluß Gozan, bis auf diesen Tag.
