- Kapitel 77 -

In the day of trouble I sought the Lord

Unto the end. For Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.

I cried out to the Lord with my voice, to God with my voice, and he attended to me.
3
In the days of my tribulation, I sought God, with my hands opposite him in the night, and I was not deceived. My soul refused to be consoled.
4
I was mindful of God, and I was delighted, and I was distressed, and my spirit fell away.(a)
5
My eyes anticipated the vigils. I was disturbed, and I did not speak.
6
I considered the days of antiquity, and I held the years of eternity in my mind.
7
And I meditated in the night with my heart, and I was distressed, and I examined my spirit.
8
So then, will God reject for eternity? Will he not continue to allow himself to show favor?(b)
9
Or, will he cut off his mercy in the end, from generation to generation?
10
And would God ever forget to be merciful? Or, would he, in his wrath, restrict his mercies?
11
And I said, “Now I have begun. This change is from the right hand of the Most High.”
12
I was mindful of the works of the Lord. For I will be mindful from the beginning of your wonders,
13
and I will meditate on all your works. And I will take part in your intentions.
14
Your way, O God, is in what is holy. Which God is great like our God?
15
You are the God who performs miracles. You have made your virtue known among the peoples.
16
With your arm, you have redeemed your people, the sons of Jacob and of Joseph.
17
The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you, and they were afraid, and the depths were stirred up.
18
Great was the sound of the waters. The clouds uttered a voice. For your arrows also pass by.
19
The voice of your thunder is like a wheel. Your flashes have illuminated the whole world. The earth has quaked and trembled.
20
Your way is through the sea, and your paths are through many waters. And your traces will not be known.
21
You have conducted your people like sheep, by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

(a)76:4 This verse sums up the contemplative way. First, you consider God with your mind. Second, you find delight in God and receive light and consolation. Third, you encounter hardships, walking, as it were, a dark and rocky road to Calvary. This third step is called the dark night of the soul. Fourth, you arrive at a contemplation of God whereby your sense of self and all traces of self-interest fall away, leaving only God.(Conte)
(b)76:8 The word ‘numquid’ indicates that the answer to the question is ‘no.’ Therefore, the phrasing of the question must also indicate that fact. The latter part of this verse is translated loosely, otherwise the meaning would be obscured.(Conte)

Ich rufe mit meiner Stimme zu dem Herrn, mit meiner Stimme zu Gott, dass er auf mich merke.

Am Tage meiner Drangsal suche ich Gott, strecke meine Hände des Nachts nach ihm aus und täusche mich nicht; meine Seele will sich nicht trösten lassen!
4
Ich gedenke an Gott und freue mich; mühe ich mich sorgend, so verzagt mein Geist.
5
Meine Augen blicken die ganze Nacht hindurch nach Hilfe aus, ich bin voller Unruhe und kann nicht reden.

Ich überdenke die Tage der Vorzeit und die längst entschwundenen Jahre erwäge ich
7
und sinne des Nachts in meinem Herzen und sinne beständig nach und härme meinen Geist ab.
8
Wird denn Gott auf ewig verwerfen oder nicht ferner mehr gnädig sein?
9
Oder wird er auf immer sein Erbarmen entziehen von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht?
10
Oder wird Gott vergessen, gnädig zu sein, und in seinem Zorn seine Erbarmungen zurückhalten?

Da sprach ich: Nun beginne ich! Diese Änderung kommt von der Rechten des Allerhöchsten!

Ich will der Taten des Herrn gedenken, denn ich habe deine Wundertaten im Gedächtnis vom Anfang her,
13
und nachsinnen will ich über all dein Tun und mich vertiefen in deine Taten.

O Gott! in Heiligkeit ist dein Weg. Wo ist ein Gott so groß wie unser Gott?
15
Du bist Gott allein, der du Wunder tust; du hast unter allen Völkern deine Macht kund werden lassen.
16
Du hast durch deinen Arm dein Volk erlöst, die Söhne Jakobs und Josephs.
17
Es sahen dich die Wasser, o Gott es sahen dich die Wasser und gerieten in Furcht, erschüttert wurden die Tiefen.
18
Gewaltig war das Rauschen der Wasser. Die Wolken donnerten und deine Pfeile fuhren hernieder.
19
Der Schall deines Donners rollte daher, deine Blitze leuchteten über den Erdkreis, es bebte und erzitterte die Erde.
20
Durch das Meer ging dein Weg und dein Pfad durch große Wasser und deine Spuren erkannte man nicht.
21
Du führtest dein Volk wie Schafe durch Moses und Aaron.
