- Kapitel 18 -

(Mark 9:33–41; Luke 9:46–50)

In that hour, the disciples drew near to Jesus, saying, “Whom do you consider to be greater in the kingdom of heaven?”

And Jesus, calling to himself a little child, placed him in their midst.

And he said: “Amen I say to you, unless you change and become like little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Therefore, whoever will have humbled himself like this little child, such a one is greater in the kingdom of heaven.

And whoever shall accept one such little child in my name, accepts me.

Temptations and Trespasses

(Mark 9:42–48; Luke 17:1–4)

But whoever will have led astray one of these little ones, who trust in me, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck, and to be submerged in the depths of the sea.(a)

Woe to a world that leads people astray! Although it is necessary for temptations to arise, nevertheless: Woe to that man through whom temptation arises!(c)

So if your hand or your foot leads you to sin, cut it off and cast it away from you. It is better for you to enter into life disabled or lame, than to be sent into eternal fire having two hands or two feet.(d)

And if your eye leads you to sin, root it out and cast it away from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, than to be sent into the fires of Hell having two eyes.

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

(Luke 15:1–7)

See to it that you do not despise even one of these little ones. For I say to you, that their Angels in heaven continually look upon the face of my Father, who is in heaven.(e)

For the Son of man has come to save what had been lost.

How does it seem to you? If someone has one hundred sheep, and if one of them has gone astray, should he not leave behind the ninety-nine in the mountains, and go out to seek what has gone astray?

And if he should happen to find it: Amen I say to you, that he has more joy over that one, than over the ninety-nine which did not go astray.

Even so, it is not the will before your Father, who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should be lost.

A Brother Who Sins

(Deuteronomy 19:15–21)

But if your brother has sinned against you, go and correct him, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you will have regained your brother.

But if he will not listen you, invite with you one or two more, so that every word may stand by the mouth of two or three witnesses.(f)

And if he will not listen to them, tell the Church. But if he will not listen to the Church, let him be to you like the pagan and the tax collector.

Amen I say to you, whatever you will have bound on earth, shall be bound also in heaven, and whatever you will have released on earth, shall be released also in heaven.

Ask in My Name

(John 16:23–33)

Again I say to you, that if two of those among you have agreed on earth, about anything whatsoever that they have requested, it shall be done for them by my Father, who is in heaven.

For wherever two or three are gathered in my name, there am I, in their midst.”(g)

The Unforgiving Servant

(Romans 12:14–21)

Then Peter, drawing near to him, said: “Lord, how many times shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Even seven times?”

Jesus said to him: “I do not say to you, even seven times, but even seventy times seven times.

Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is compared to a man who was king, who wanted to take account of his servants.

And when he had begun taking account, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.(h)

But since he did not have any way to repay it, his lord ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children, and all that he had, in order to repay it.

But that servant, falling prostrate, begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay it all to you.’

Then the lord of that servant, being moved with pity, released him, and he forgave his debt.

But when that servant departed, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him one hundred denarius. And taking hold of him, he choked him, saying: ‘Repay what you owe.’(j)

And his fellow servant, falling prostrate, petitioned him, saying: ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay it all to you.’

But he was not willing. Instead, he went out and had him sent to prison, until he would repay the debt.

Now his fellow servants, seeing what was done, were greatly saddened, and they went and reported to their lord all that was done.

Then his lord called him, and he said to him: ‘You wicked servant, I forgave you all your debt, because you pleaded with me.

Therefore, should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I also had compassion on you?’

And his lord, being angry, handed him over to the torturers, until he repaid the entire debt.

So, too, shall my heavenly Father do to you, if each one of you will not forgive his brother from your hearts.”

Wer ist der Größte?

(Markus 9,33-41; Lukas 9,46-50)

In jener Stunde traten die Jünger zu Jesus und sprachen: Wer ist wohl der Größte im Himmelreiche?

Da rief Jesus ein Kind herbei, stellte es mitten unter sie,

und sprach: Wahrlich, ich sage euch, wenn ihr euch nicht bekehret und nicht werdet wie die Kinder, werdet ihr nicht in das Himmelreich eingehen!

Wer also immer sich verdemütigt wie dieses Kind, der ist der Größere im Himmelreiche.

Und wer ein einziges solches Kind in meinem Namen aufnimmt, nimmt mich auf.

Jesus warnt vor Übertretungen

(Markus 9,42-48; Lukas 17,1-4)

Wer aber einem von diesen Kleinen, die an mich glauben, Ärgernis gibt, dem gebührt es, dass ein Mühlstein an seinen Hals gehängt, und er in die Tiefe des Meeres versenkt werde.

Wehe der Welt wegen der Ärgernisse! Denn es ist notwendig, dass Ärgernisse kommen, wehe aber dem Menschen, durch welchen das Ärgernis kommt!

Wenn aber deine Hand oder dein Fuß dich ärgert, so haue sie ab, und wirf sie von dir; es ist dir besser, dass du verkrüppelt oder lahm in das Leben eingehst, als zwei Hände oder zwei Füße zu haben, und in das ewige Feuer geworfen zu werden.

Und wenn dein Auge dich ärgert, so reiß es aus, und wirf es von dir; es ist dir besser, mit einem Auge in das Leben einzugehen, als zwei Augen zu haben, und in das höllische Feuer geworfen zu werden.

Das Gleichnis vom verlorenen Schaf

(Lukas 15,1-7)

Sehet zu, dass ihr nicht eines von diesen Kleinen verachtet; denn ich sage euch, ihre Engel im Himmel schauen immerfort das Angesicht meines Vaters, welcher im Himmel ist.

denn der Menschensohn ist gekommen, zu retten, was verloren war.

Was dünket euch? Wenn jemand hundert Schafe hat, und es verirrt sich eines von ihnen, lässt er nicht die neunundneunzig auf den Bergen, und gehet hin, das verirrte zu suchen?

Und wenn es sich trifft, dass er es findet, wahrlich, ich sage euch, er freuet sich mehr über dasselbe als über die neunundneunzig, welche nicht irre gegangen sind!

Also ist es nicht der Wille eures Vaters, der im Himmel ist, dass eines von diesen Kleinen verloren gehe.

Der Umgang mit einem sündigen Bruder

(5. Mose 19,15-21)

Wenn aber dein Bruder wider dich gesündiget hat, so gehe hin, und weise ihn zurecht zwischen dir und ihm allein. Wenn er auf dich hört, so hast du deinen Bruder gewonnen;

wenn er aber nicht auf dich hört, so nimm noch einen oder zwei mit dir, damit jede Sache auf der Aussage zweier oder dreier Zeugen feststehe.

Wenn er auch auf diese nicht hört, so sage es der Kirche; wenn er aber auf die Kirche nicht hört, so sei er dir wie der Heide oder der Zöllner.

Wahrlich, ich sage euch, was ihr immer auf Erden binden werdet, wird auch im Himmel gebunden sein; und was ihr immer auf Erden lösen werdet, wird auch im Himmel gelöst sein!

(Johannes 16,23-33)

Abermals sage ich euch: Wenn zwei aus euch auf Erden eines Sinnes sein werden über was immer für eine Sache, um die sie bitten wollen, so wird sie ihnen von meinem Vater, der im Himmel ist, zuteil werden.

Denn wo zwei oder drei versammelt sind in meinem Namen, dort bin ich mitten unter ihnen.

Das Gleichnis vom unversöhnlichen Knecht

(Römer 12,14-21)

Alsdann trat Petrus zu ihm und sprach: Herr! Wie oft soll ich meinem Bruder vergeben, wenn er wider mich sündigt? Bis zu sieben Malen?

Jesus sprach zu ihm: Nicht sage ich dir: Bis zu sieben Malen, sondern bis zu siebenzigmal sieben Malen.

Darum ist das Himmelreich einem Könige gleich, der mit seinen Knechten Abrechnung halten wollte.

Und als er angefangen zu rechnen, wurde ihm einer vorgeführt, der ihm zehntausend Talente schuldig war.

Da dieser aber nichts hatte, womit er bezahlen konnte, befahl sein Herr, ihn und sein Weib, und seine Kinder und alles, was er hatte, zu verkaufen, und zu bezahlen.

Da fiel jener Knecht vor ihm nieder, bat ihn, und sprach: Habe Geduld mit mir, ich werde dir alles bezahlen!

Der Herr aber erbarmte sich über diesen Knecht, entließ ihn, und schenkte ihm die Schuld.

Nachdem aber jener Knecht hinausgegangen war, fand er einen seiner Mitknechte, welcher ihm hundert Denare schuldete; und er packte ihn, würgte ihn, und sprach: Bezahle, was du schuldig bist!

Da fiel ihm sein Mitknecht zu Füßen, bat ihn, und sprach: Habe Geduld mit mir, und ich werde dir alles bezahlen!

Er aber wollte nicht, sondern ging hin, und ließ ihn in´s Gefängnis werfen, bis er die Schuld bezahlt hätte.

Als aber seine Mitknechte sahen, was geschah, wurden sie sehr betrübt; und sie kamen, und erzählten ihrem Herrn alles, was geschehen war.

Da rief ihn sein Herr zu sich und sprach zu ihm: Du böser Knecht! Die ganze Schuld habe ich dir erlassen, weil du mich gebeten hast;

hättest denn nicht auch du dich deines Mitknechtes erbarmen sollen, so wie auch ich mich deiner erbarmt habe?

Und erzürnt übergab ihn sein Herr den Peinigern, bis er die ganze Schuld abbezahlt haben würde.

So wird auch mein himmlischer Vater euch tun, wenn ihr nicht, ein jeder seinem Bruder, von Herzen, vergebet.
