- Kapitel 3 -

Now Peter and John went up to the temple at the ninth hour of prayer.

And a certain man, who was lame from his mother’s womb, was being carried in. They would lay him every day at the gate of the temple, which is called the Beautiful, so that he might request alms from those entering into the temple.

And this man, when he had seen Peter and John beginning to enter the temple, was begging, so that he might receive alms.

Then Peter and John, gazing at him, said, “Look at us.”

And he looked intently at them, hoping that he might receive something from them.

But Peter said: “Silver and gold is not mine. But what I have, I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, rise up and walk.”

And taking him by the right hand, he lifted him up. And immediately his legs and feet were strengthened.

And leaping up, he stood and walked around. And he entered with them into the temple, walking and leaping and praising God.

And all the people saw him walking and praising God.

And they recognized him, that he was the same one who was sitting for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple. And they were filled with awe and amazement at what had happened to him.

Peter Speaks in Solomon’s Colonnade

(Deuteronomy 18:15–22)

Then, as he held on to Peter and John, all the people ran to them at the portico, which is called Solomon’s, in astonishment.

But Peter, seeing this, responded to the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this? Or why do you stare at us, as if it were by our own strength or power that we caused this man to walk?

The God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Son Jesus, whom you, indeed, handed over and denied before the face of Pilate, when he was giving judgment to release him.

Then you denied the Holy and Just One, and petitioned for a murderous man to be given to you.

Truly, it was the Author of Life whom you put to death, whom God raised from the dead, to whom we are witnesses.

And by faith in his name, this man, whom you have seen and known, has confirmed his name. And faith through him has given this man complete health in the sight of you all.

And now, brothers, I know that you did this through ignorance, just as your leaders also did.

But in this way God has fulfilled the things that he announced beforehand through the mouth of all the Prophets: that his Christ would suffer.

Therefore, repent and be converted, so that your sins may be wiped away.

And then, when the time of consolation will have arrived from the presence of the Lord, he will send the One who was foretold to you, Jesus Christ,(a)

whom heaven certainly must take up, until the time of the restoration of all things, which God has spoken of by the mouth of his holy prophets, from ages past.(b)

Indeed, Moses said: ‘For the Lord your God shall raise up a Prophet for you from your brothers, one like me; the same shall you listen to according to everything whatsoever that he shall speak to you.

And this shall be: every soul who will not listen to that Prophet shall be exterminated from the people.’

And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and thereafter, have announced these days.

You are sons of the prophets and of the testament which God has appointed for our fathers, saying to Abraham: ‘And by your offspring all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’

God raised up his Son and sent him first to you, to bless you, so that each one may turn himself away from his wickedness.”

Ein lahmer Mann wird geheilt

Petrus aber und Johannes gingen hinauf in den Tempel zur neunten Stunde des Gebetes.

Da wurde ein Mann herbeigetragen, der vom Mutterleibe an lahm war; den setzten sie täglich an die Pforte des Tempels, welche die schöne heißt, hin, dass er von denen, welche in den Tempel gingen, Almosen heische.

Als dieser den Petrus und Johannes sah, die eben im Begriffe waren in den Tempel hineinzugehen, bat er sie, um ein Almosen zu empfangen.

Petrus aber mit Johannes blickte auf ihn und sprach: Siehe uns an!

Da richtete er seinen Blick auf sie, in der Hoffnung, etwas von ihnen zu empfangen.

Petrus aber sagte: Silber und Gold habe ich nicht, was ich aber habe, das gebe ich dir: Im Namen Jesu Christi, des Nazareners, stehe auf und wandle!

Und er fasste ihn bei der rechten Hand an und richtete ihn auf; und alsbald kam Kraft in seine Füße und Sohlen.

Und aufspringend, stand er und wandelte umher; und er trat mit ihnen in den Tempel, gehend, hüpfend und Gott lobend.

Und alles Volk sah ihn umhergehen und Gott loben.

Da sie nun erkannten, dass er der war, welcher des Almosens wegen an der schönen Pforte des Tempels saß, wurden sie voll Staunens und außer sich über das, was mit ihm vorgegangen war.

Verkündigen in Salomos Säulenhalle

(5. Mose 18,15-22)

Da er aber Petrus und Johannes festhielt, lief das Volk zu ihnen in die Halle, welche Salomons Halle heißt, voll Erstaunen.

Als Petrus das sah, sprach er zu dem Volke: Ihr Männer von Israel! Was wundert ihr euch hierüber, oder was blicket ihr auf uns, als hätte wir aus eigener Kraft oder Macht diesen gehen gemacht?

Der Gott Abrahams, der Gott Isaaks, der Gott Jakobs, der Gott unserer Väter hat seinen Sohn Jesus verherrlicht, welchen ihr überliefert, und vor dem Angesichte des Pilatus verleugnet habt, während er entschieden hatte, ihn freizulassen;

ihr aber habt den Heiligen und Gerechten verleugnet, und verlangt, dass man euch einen Mann, der ein Mörder war, schenkte.

Den Urheber des Lebens dagegen habt ihr getötet, und Gott hat ihn von den Toten auferweckt; des sind wir Zeugen!

Durch den Glauben an seinen Namen hat sein Name diesen, den ihr sehet und kennet, gestärkt; und der Glaube, der durch ihn ist, hat diesem die vollkommene Gesundheit gegeben, wie ihr alle sehet.

Und nun, meine Brüder! ich weiß, dass ihr es aus Unwissenheit getan habt, wie auch eure Vorsteher.

Gott aber hat das, was er durch den Mund aller Propheten vorherverkündiget hat, dass sein Gesalbter leiden werde, so erfüllt.

So tuet denn Buße, und bekehret euch, damit eure Sünden getilgt werden;

damit die Zeiten der Erquickung von dem Angesichte des Herrn kommen, wenn er den, welcher euch verkündigt worden ist, sendet, Jesus Christus.

Für jetzt muss der Himmel denselben aufnehmen bis zu den Zeiten der Wiederherstellung aller Dinge, wovon Gott durch den Mund seiner heiligen Propheten von alters her geredet hat.

So sagte schon Moses: der Herr, euer Gott, wird euch einen Propheten wie mich aus euren Brüdern erwecken; den sollet ihr hören in allem, was er euch immer sagen wird.

Es wird aber geschehen: jede Seele, welche diesen Propheten nicht hört, wird aus dem Volke vertilgt werden.

Und alle Propheten, welche geredet haben, von Samuel angefangen und fernerhin, verkündigten diese Tage.

Ihr seid die Kinder der Propheten und des Bundes, den Gott mit unsern Vätern geschlossen hat, da er zu Abraham sprach: Und in deinem Samen werden alle Geschlechter der Erde gesegnet werden.

Euch zuerst hat Gott seinen Sohn erweckt und gesandt, um euch zu segnen, damit sich ein jeder von seiner Bosheit bekehre.
